Victoria has been particularly cold since Friday last week.

Australia’s eastern regions have recently experienced a severe cold snap, with the mercury plummeting to the lowest it has been all year. The harsh weather has engulfed the nation, making conditions ideal for winter. Residents have been advised to stay warm as the ‘feels-like’ temperature in major cities like Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, and Hobart has been 3-6 degrees Celsius lower than the actual minimum temperature in the past two days, according to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM).

Tuesday’s ‘feels like’ vs actual temperature at the coldest point of day
  • Melbourne: Actual temperature 3.7C. Feels like temperature 0.4C
  • Sydney: Actual temperature 8.5C. Feels like temperature 2.7C
  • Hobart: Actual temperature 5.2C. Feels like temperature 1.4C
  • Canberra: Actual temperature -3.6C. Feels like temperature -6.1C

Meanwhile through alpine and regional areas, some towns — which were already unusually cold — plunged to well below freezing.
