Melbourne has recently experienced two earthquakes

Another earthquake has been detected in Melbourne, two days after the city was rocked by an initial tremor.

Tuesday’s 2.3 magnitude quake struck around Boronia and Ferntree Gully just after 5pm, at a depth of about 4km.

More than 140 residents reported feeling the quake, according to Geoscience Australia.

It comes days after a 4.0-magnitude quake struck 3km deep in north-west Melbourne on Sunday.

Many people were woken by tremors, with reports it was felt as far from Sunbury to Hobart and an SRC site in Adelaide.

In 2021 a 5.9-magnitude quake hit near Mansfield, 180km north-east of Melbourne, with tremors lasting for between 30 and 40 seconds.
