Norwegian Grammy-winning duo returns to Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane this November
SYDNEY, Australia – If you know one song from the past 25 years, it’s probably theirs.
Secret Garden – the Norwegian-Irish duo behind “You Raise Me Up,” one of the most recorded songs in modern history – will return to Australian stages this November for their first national tour since wowing audiences in 2004.
Composer Rolf Løvland and violinist Fionnuala Sherry will bring their timeless melodies to Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane, marking their first Australian performances since their unforgettable Sydney Opera House season.
The Song Everyone Knows
“You Raise Me Up” has been recorded by more than 1,000 artists – from Josh Groban to Westlife, Il Divo to Celtic Woman – and translated into over 40 languages. It has been performed at the Olympic Games, the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony, and as a tribute at the Super Bowl to an estimated 900 million viewers.
But the song began quietly.
“I wrote it in 2001 following the sudden death of my mother,” reveals Løvland. “It was never intended to be a hit – it was simply my personal expression of grief and, eventually, hope.” Paired with lyrics by Irish songwriter Brendan Graham, it became a universal anthem of resilience.
More Than One Song
While “You Raise Me Up” is their best-known work, Secret Garden’s catalog runs deep. Their 1995 Eurovision victory with “Nocturne” made history as the only instrumental piece ever to win the competition. With 6 million albums sold, 113 Platinum records, and an unprecedented 311 consecutive weeks on the Billboard New Age Chart, their music has quietly soundtracked three decades of weddings, graduations, and quiet moments of reflection.
“Australia has always held a special place in our hearts,” says Sherry. “We cannot wait to reconnect.”
A Tour with Purpose
Beyond the concerts, the tour carries a meaningful initiative conceived and led by Benny Wang, Director of Wise N Rise Pty Ltd, the tour’s presenter. The “Secret Garden Inspiration Forest” is a bushfire-recovery project restoring native forests in fire-affected regions including the Greater Blue Mountains and East Gippsland. For every ticket sold, one dollar is donated to support the restoration of critical wildlife corridors – ensuring the tour’s legacy extends beyond the music to heal the land that has inspired it.
