When the Olympic women’s skateboard park prelims got underway Tuesday afternoon in Paris, there was a strong chance of a Tokyo 2020 podium repeat.
The Tokyo medalists—Japan’s Sakura Yosozumi (gold) and Cocona Hiraki (silver) and Great Britain’s Sky Brown (bronze)—all returned to compete in Paris. What’s more, all three were ranked in the world top four.
But a lot of women’s skateboarding talent has bubbled up to the surface since the Tokyo Games, and that was on clear display in the women’s park final Tuesday evening.
Australia’s Arisa Trew, fresh off Olympic Qualifier Series wins in Shanghai in May and Budapest in June and an X Games women’s park gold medal, continued her golden streak in Paris.
Trew shook up the podium to take gold. Hiraki and Brown, meanwhile, earned their second consecutive silver and bronze medals, respectively.
