PM Albanese Considers Royal Commission into Bondi Attack as Public Pressure Mounts

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has indicated he is open to establishing a royal commission into the Bondi terrorist attack, following growing calls for an independent and comprehensive inquiry into the incident that shocked the nation.

During a press briefing, Mr Albanese acknowledged the public’s demand for transparency and accountability, stating that the government would give “serious consideration” to such a move. “We owe it to the victims, their families, and all Australians to ensure we fully understand what happened and what can be done to prevent such tragedies in the future,” he said.

The Bondi attack, which unfolded at a major shopping centre last month, has sparked widespread debate over security preparedness and intelligence coordination between state and federal agencies. Opposition leaders and victim advocacy groups have intensified pressure on the government to launch a high-level investigation.

Legal experts note that a royal commission would provide broad powers to compel testimony and documents, offering the most thorough form of public inquiry in Australia. However, some caution that such proceedings can be lengthy and costly.

The Prime Minister did not commit to an immediate timeline but assured that the government would make a decision after consulting with relevant authorities and stakeholders. Security reviews at both state and national levels are already underway.
