Rents have reached record prices around Australia, with CoreLogic’s latest data showing the median rose to $627 per week in April 2024.
Perhaps unsurprisingly – to residents at least – Sydney rents were at the head of the pack, averaging $770 a week.
And of course, many suburbs were hundreds of dollars above that.

1. Pittwater
And finally, in Pittwater, Sydney’s most expensive rentals average $1335 a week, a yearly increase of 8.4 per cent.
2. Manly
In Manly, rentals averaged $1240 a week, up 3.6 per cent.
3. Ku-ring-gai
Rents increased 10.2 per cent in Ku-ring-gai, to average $1201 a week in April.
4. Warringah
Warringah rents lifted 10.4 per cent to $1103 a week.
5. Leichardt
Leichhardt rents average $1058 a week, up eight per cent on a year ago.
6. Eastern Surbubs – south
In the southern part of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, rents are at an average of $1027 a week, up 8.8 per cent.
7. Marrickville-Sydenham-Petersham
Rental values in this inner west area rose 8.4 per cent to $1005 a week.
That’s right – we’re not even in the top five and have already cracked four figures.
8. Botany
In Botany, rents climbed 8.3 per cent to $980 a week.
9. Sydney inner-city
Sydney’s inner-city saw the median rent increase 7.7 per cent to $967 a week.
10. Chatswood-Lane Cove
Chatswood-Lane Cove rents rose to a median of $959, up 4.7 per cent in the past year.
